Case contributed by Mohammad Osama Hussein Yonso
Diagnosis probable

Presentation

The patient complained of fever, weakness, body pain, and dry cough since yesterday with acute onset progressive course, on examination: rhonchi with mild wheezes and decreased air entry of right side.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Male
x-ray
  • multiple thin-walled cystic spaces in the right lower lung, some of which have minimal air-fluid levels
  • right apical pleural thickening is noted
  • the mediastinum and the heart are mildly shifted to the right side
  • bilateral cervical ribs are noted

Case Discussion

  • bronchiectasis may be caused by a congenital disorder in the bronchi, or it may be acquired, following a chronic infection
  • on chest radiographs, bronchiectasis manifests as tram tracks, parallel line opacities, ring opacities, and tubular structures
  • CT is surely more sensitive than chest radiography for showing bronchiectasis especially the mild cases
