Presentation

History of repeated chest infection and difficulty in breathing.

Patient Data

Age: 10 years
Gender: Female

Diffuse, thick-walled cystic dilatation of bronchi within bilateral lung fields. Fluid-filled dilated bronchi are also seen in the dependent parts of both lungs.

Few nodular infiltrates within both lungs, predominantly on the left side in its dependent part.

Interlobular septal thickening with a tree-in-bud appearance is also appreciated, representing superimposed infections.

Azygos lobe is present.

Enlarged mediastinal lymph nodes are present.

In the visualized abdomen, pancreatic parenchymal atrophic changes can be seen.

Case Discussion

A young female presented to a pulmonologist with the complaint of repeated chest infections.

Considering the age of the patient and long history of chest infections, an HRCT of the chest was performed, and the imaging findings are suggestive of cystic fibrosis.

After confirmation of cystic fibrosis, the patient then started with mucolytic agents, saline nebulization, and empirical antibiotic therapy
