Presentation
An antenatal ultrasound examination during the second trimester.
Patient Data
Ultrasound of twin pregnancy shows a large cystic lesion surrounding both sides of the posterolateral neck region of the right-sided fetus and shows multiple internal stations. In addition to the bilateral pleural effusions.
The second left-sided fetus is completely normal.
Case Discussion
Cystic hygroma, also known as nuchal or cystic lymphangioma, refers to congenital macrocystic lymphatic malformations. It commonly occurs in the fetal, infantile or pediatric populations. The cervicofacial regions are the most commonly involved. It is commonly associated with aneuploidic, non-aneuploidic anomalies.
Ultrasound images show a cystic lesion in the neck region, which may contain internal separation, +/- fetal anasarca/non-hydrop details.
