Cysticercosis - elbow

Diagnosis probable

Presentation

Left elbow anterior - lateral aspect recurrent swelling (for 6 months) which subsided on its own without treatment. There was no pain. C/o Persistant swelling for last 1 month. C/o local pain for last 1 wk. No fever. No other lesion.

Patient Data

Age: 20 yrs
Gender: Female
ultrasound

There is a well-defined collection with a wall (2-3 mm) in the region of interest. It is in muscle. It measurea about 50 x 35 x 20 mm. There are internal tiny echoes in this collection. In cranial part of the collection; there is another thin walled anechoic cyst ( about 15 x 12 mm ) containing an echogenic focus (3 mm).

There is no elbow joint effusion.

Case Discussion

Findings favor intramuscular abscess formation involving elbow. Presence of anechoic cyst with scolex in the abscess / collection favors cysticercosis.
