Cysticercosis: musculoskeletal and brain involvement

25 years old, complains of 'burning' feeling right arm and leg, headache.

Patient Data

Age: 25 years old
Gender: Female

The MRI study showed small hyper intense intracranial lessons on FLAIR, some of which enhanced after gadolinium contrast agent. 


Left tight X-ray

Multiple elongated calcifications within the soft tissues.

Case Discussion

This patient has neurocysticercosis. She had been diagnosed 1 year previously and had received treatment. The current symptoms represented a relapse. Soft tissue radiographs showed the typical 'rice grain' calcifications associated with this infection.
