Left eye region.
Medially and inferior to the lower eyelid there is a 1.3 x 1.1 x 1.3 cm cystic structure. It is separate from the eyelid with no vascularity. It appears to be connected with the nasal cavity. Appearances are suggestive of a dacryocystocele.
Case Discussion
Dacryocystoceles, although rare, are the second most common cause of neonatal nasal obstruction after choanal atresia and require prompt treatment. Dacryocystoceles may be unilateral (75%) or bilateral (25%) and have no sex predilection.
