Presentation
Left medial epicanthus swelling for 5 days with epiphora and redness.
Patient Data
Heterogeneously enhancing soft tissue mass at the left preseptal region, predominantly at the left inferior orbital region and at the left medial canthus. Extensive subcutaneous fat streakiness over the left periorbital and left maxillary regions. Rim enhancing collections are seen within the mass near to origin of left nasolacrimal duct and extending into the proximal 1/3 of the left nasolacrimal duct. No abnormal collection seen within the distal half of left nasolacrimal duct and the left middle meatus. No post septal extension of the soft tissue mass or the collection. No abnormal bony erosion.
Left platysma muscle is thickened.
Case Discussion
Patient was treated with intravenous antibiotics. Dacryocysitis is usual clinical diagnosis, however, cross sectional imaging may be necessary to look for any possible complications such as postseptal orbital cellulitis or orbital abscess.
Dacryocystitis is the inflammation of the nasolacrimal sac related to impairment in the lacrimal drainage system and superimposed infection.
