Presentation

Term baby with cystic swelling along the medial aspect of the left eye.

Patient Data

Age: Newborn
Gender: Female
ultrasound

Well-defined cystic lesion measuring about 1.2 x 1.5 cm at the medial canthus of the left eye. Some echogenic contents/debris is seen within it. No calcifications, solid component or significant internal vascularity is seen in it.

Case Discussion

  • sonographic features are suggestive of left dacryocystocele.

  • clinically the baby had no signs of infection. Baby was managed conservatively (fucithalmic eye ointment and digital massage). No surgical intervention or further imaging was done as the lesion resolved completely.
