DCIS left breast

Case contributed by Dr Garth Kruger

Patient Data

Age: 65
Gender: Female

Calcifications visible centrally in a linear orientation. These calcifications were called benign BIRADS 2.

One year follow-up

Calcifications visible centrally in a linear orientation - increased.

Case Discussion

As a general rule of thumb, any post-menopausal woman who develops anything in the breast should get extra scrutiny and careful thought.

The calcifications on last year's mammogram are not lobular, benign calcifications. The orientation, the differing densities and the individual morphologies are concerning even at the initial workup. On the follow-up, there is DCIS visible centrally in the left breast. Biopsy confirmed.
