Presentation

Non-traumatic origin of pain on radial aspect of the wrist. Painful thumb movements.

Patient Data

Age: 40 years
Gender: Female
ultrasound
  • thickened hypoechoic tendon sheath around the extensor pollicis brevis tendon
  • a tiny ganglion (2mm) just proximal to the thickened sheath
  • normal findings at the asymptomatic side for comparison

Case Discussion

Findings favor De Quervain tenosynovitis selective to the extensor pollicis brevis tendon with a tiny ganglion just proximal to the thickened tendon sheath.
