Dedifferentiated liposarcoma

Presentation

Presented with fullness at the right side of the abdomen for several weeks, associated with loss of weight. History of a large right retroperitoneal mass which was resected in 2018 following neo-adjuvant chemotherapy - histology reported as dedifferentiated liposarcoma.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male

Heterogeneously enhancing right retroperitoneal mass, measuring 3.0 x 3.7 x 3.0 cm (ap x ml x cc). Involvement of the lower pole of the right kidney and right psoas muscle. Poor fat plane with the IVC, suspicious for the involvement of the vein. No filling defects within the IVC suggesting tumor thrombus. No enlarged para-aortic or paracaval lymph nodes.

Case Discussion

Dedifferentiated liposarcomas have a high propensity to recur, which was likely the case in this patient.
