Dehiscent jugular bulb

Case contributed by Dr Andrew Lawson

Presentation

Head trauma, now 'ringing' in left ear.

Patient Data

Age: 30
Gender: Male
Modality: CT

Large left jugular bulb. It is not a high riding bulb by definition since it does not extend cranial to the IAM. But, note the deficient sigmoid plate allowing the jugular vein to almost protrude into the middle ear.

This is likely an incidental finding. Whether this had any clinical significance in this case is of doubt.
