Patient Data

Age: 10 years
mri

Areas of diffusion restriction with central hemorrhagic foci are seen in bilateral thalami. Surrounding edema is seen extending into posterior limbs of both internal capsules.

Symmetrical areas of diffusion restriction are seen in bilateral cerebellar hemispheres.

Areas of diffusion restriction are also seen in right hippocampus, periventricular white matter of right parietal lobe, splenium of corpus callosum, bilateral putamen and deep white matter of bilateral fronto-parietal lobes.

Focal T2/FLAIR hyperintensity is seen in pons.

Case Discussion

In a known case of dengue, above findings are suggestive of dengue encephalitis.
