Dengue fever

Presentation

7 days right sided abdominal pain. Recently returned from India.

Patient Data

Age: 45
Gender: Female
Modality: CT

Moderate right pleural effusion. Moderate free fluid. There is free fluid tracking along the right paracolic gutter. There is left subdiaphragmatic periplenic free fluid. A moderate to large volume of free fluid in the pelvis. There is retroperitoneal free fluid, anterior to right psoas, continuous with the right anterior pararenal space.

Modality: Ultrasound

Diffuse gallbladder wall thickening. No cholelithiasis.

Case Discussion

Gallbladder wall thickening / oedema and pericholecystic fluid. No cholelithiasis.

Diffuse free fluid elsewhere in the abdomen.

Moderate right pleural effusion.

Laboratory findings:

Serology compatible with recent Dengue infection (NS1 Ag positive).

Thrombocytopenia (Platelets 58).

Impression:

Intra-abdominal manifestations of Dengue fever.

Suspected hemorrhagic cholecystitis
