Dengue fever

Presentation

7 days right sided abdominal pain. Recently returned from India.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Female
ct

Moderate right pleural effusion. Moderate free fluid. There is free fluid tracking along the right paracolic gutter. There is left subdiaphragmatic perisplenic free fluid. A moderate to large volume of free fluid in the pelvis. There is retroperitoneal free fluid, anterior to the right psoas, continuous with the right anterior pararenal space.

ultrasound

Diffuse gallbladder wall thickening. No cholelithiasis.

Case Discussion

Gallbladder wall thickening/edema and pericholecystic fluid. No cholelithiasis. Diffuse free fluid elsewhere in the abdomen. Moderate right pleural effusion.

Laboratory findings:

  • Serology compatible with recent Dengue infection (NS1 Ag positive).
  • Thrombocytopenia (Platelets 58).

Impression: Intra-abdominal manifestations of Dengue fever and suspected hemorrhagic cholecystitis
