Dental abscess with soft tissue phlegmon

Presentation

Swelling chin without trauma. No fever. Lockjaw.

Patient Data

Age: 42
Gender: Male

In subcutaneous tissues over the chin a 4 cm fluid collection compatible with abscess is appreciated. There are irregularities of cortical mandible in the midline. 

Osteolytic area of 41 with periapical alveolar abscess with fistula in the external chin soft tissue where there is detectable phlegmon.

The acute alveolar abscess is represented by a collection of pus localized into the alveolar bone surrounding the apex of a tooth whose pulp is necrotic.
