Orthodontic check-up, dental assessment for overcrowding

Patient Data

Age: 10
Gender: Male
x-ray

Mixed dentition stage, absence of 14 germ, microdontia of 22 (grain of rice shaped), palatal topography of 24 germ (mesio-distal diameter relative increase in OPG) projected on 23 germ . Axial rotation of 12, 11 and 21:  sign of anterior overcrowding.

Absence of 18, 28, 48 and 38, normal for this age.

Case Discussion

Since clinical aspect of dental agenesis and delayed eruption are similar, OPG allows to distinguish between to both of them.

Microdontia is a dental size anomaly concerning the crown, an inchoate form of agenesis, often associated with upper lateral incisor agenesis.
