Presentation

Painful swelling of the right gluteal region.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male
mri

Large lobulated soft tissue mass of the right gluteal region of intermuscular location between the gluteus maximis posteriorly, gluteus medius anteriorly and the piriformis medially. It appears isointense to muscles on T1 with areas of low signal, mixed signal on STIR with areas of high and low signal and heterogeneous enhancement on postcontrast sequences. There is infiltration of the gluteus muscle with compression of the sciatic nerve and endopelvic extension through the sciatic foramen displacing the piriformis muscle medially.

Case Discussion

Large soft tissue mass of the right gluteal region of complex signal intensity pathologically confirmed as a desmoid tumor.
