Age: Adult
Gender: Female

Routine screening MLO view left breast 2009. Note the liponecrotic calcifications and their distribution.

The same view on the same breast 2010. Note the developing density over the pectoralis muscle profile. Read as normal. The same patient as identified by the liponecrotic calcifications.

The spiculated mass in 2012 clearly overlying the pectoralis profile. 

The infiltrating ductal carcinoma on ultrasound imaging, deep in the breast lying on the pectoralis fascia.

Case Discussion

Like most teaching cases in mammography, this is in effect time lapse mammography. This is another case that emphasizes the importance of running your eye down the profile of the pectoral muscle on the MLO views to identify developing densities.
