Developmental dysplasia of the hip

Presentation

Asymmetric gait with limp on the right and associated pain. Gait abnormality has been longstanding, pain is more recent.

Patient Data

Age: 16 months old
Gender: Female
X-ray

The right femoral epiphysis is smaller than the left and there is slight lateral decentering. In addition, there is notching and focal lucency at the right superior acetabular margin. Features are of developmental dysplasia of the hip.

Case Discussion

Right sided DDH. It is rare for patients to present at 16 months because of ultrasound screening programs that have been set up for high-risk groups in many countries.
