- right alpha angle measures: 50 degrees, femoral head bony coverage: 43%
- left alpha angle measures: 55 degrees, femoral head bony coverage: 46%
These findings are consistent with bilateral mild developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH), being more prominent on the right side.
Case Discussion
This is a case of DDH in a newborn baby girl with a history of breech delivery. Hip ultrasound is the procedure of choice to evaluate for DDH. It should be done at least 2-4 weeks after birth to avoid the period of physiologic ligamental laxity of the hips in the newborns.
