The cartilaginous femoral heads are normal and relatively symmetric. There is at least 50% coverage of the right femoral head with the alpha angles >60 degrees. However, there is approximately 30-40% coverage of the left femoral head with alpha angles measuring ~50 degrees. The bony acetabulum displays an abnormal sloped morphology.
Case Discussion
This is a case of developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) in a patient who was at risk for developing DDH given their history of a breech presentation. Paediatric orthopaedic surgery was consulted who placed the patient in a harness. Over several subsequent hip ultrasounds, the left hip significantly improved.
