Presentation

Diffuse abdominal pain and abdominal bulge.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years.
Gender: Female

The anterior abdominal wall shows thinning stretching of linea alba with the widening of the gap between both recti. The inter-recti distance increases and measures about 3.7 cm at the umbilical level. However, no definite ventral wall defect or abnormal visceral bulge was detected.

Case Discussion

Diastasis recti or divarication of recti which means abdominal muscle separation is a term describing a condition in which the two rectus muscles (six-pack muscles) are separated y an abnormal gap. This space becomes more prominent when trying to sit up unsupported in bed. some health problems are associated with recti diastasis: chronic backache, urinary incontinence, dyspareunia and postpartum constipation.
