Diffuse astrocytoma NOS

Case contributed by Dr Roberto Schubert

Followup of known abnormality.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

A large left temporal lobe mass with high T2 and areas which attenuate on FLAIR is seen. There is no enhancement. No restricted diffusion except perhaps for a rim of compressed brain.

Case Discussion

Features are typical of a diffuse low-grade glioma.

Unfortunately, exact histology is unavailable, although the mass was confirmed to be a low grade astrocytoma (WHO grade II).

Note: IDH mutation status is not provided in this case and according to the current (2016) WHO classification of CNS tumors, this tumor would, therefore, be designated as a diffuse astrocytoma NOS.
