Diffuse muscle atrophy due to Polio

Presentation

Shortness of breath.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years.
Gender: Female

Normal chest x-ray.

Severe, diffuse muscle atrophy. Mild bibasilar atelectasis. Multiple bilateral breast masses, right worse than left. Subcutaneous nodule posterior to the right scapula. Splenic artery aneurysm.

Case Discussion

Denervation is a common cause of muscle atrophy. In this case, the patient had a history of poliomyelitis which was the presumed cause.
