Diiodohydroxyquinoline artefact

History of fever for 3 days with mild abdominal pain, and mucous diarrhea.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Multiple punctate intraluminal small round opacities in the colon, secondary to the pharmacological agent of the amebicide (Diiodohydroxyquinoline).

Vertebral body congenital abnormality of L4 noted.

Case Discussion

Colonic hyperattenuating foci are a common finding in regions where parasitic/amoebic infections are common, due to treatment with compounds containing diiodohydroxyquinoline, in this case Flagenase* (Metronidazol/Diiodohydroxyquinoline).
