Discitis and epidural abscess

Presentation

T6/T7 pain radiating into the chest. Concern over spondylodiscitis.

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male
mri

Altered signal and avid enhancement of the T6 and T7 vertebral bodies and intervening disc. Epidural abscess, canal stenosis and thoracic cord compression at the T6/T7 level.

L4/L5/S1 degenerative change.

Case Discussion

Classical appearances of spondylodiscitis.

In this case, an epidural abscess has formed, with cord compression.

Immediate surgical intervention is indicated.
