Presentation

Locking right knee.

Patient Data

Age: 8 years
Gender: Male
mri

There is an abnormal body width of the lateral meniscus (>20 mm) on coronal sequences, visible in more than three images on sagittal sequences with an intrinsic high STIR (degenerative).

The medial meniscus appears normal.

Case Discussion

MRI features of a discoid lateral meniscus. Discoid menisci are of congenital origin, usually affecting the lateral meniscus, bilateral up to 50%,  prone to cystic degeneration with subsequent tear (due to decreased collagen fibers within the discoid meniscus).
