Discoid meniscus

Case contributed by Henry Knipe
Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Clicking knee.

Patient Data

Age: 17 years
Gender: Male
mri

Discoid lateral meniscus covering approximately two-thirds of the articular surface. Absent posterior meniscocapsular attachments. Undisplaced vertical tear of the anterior horn lateral meniscus extending into anterior root attachment.

Incidental, predominantly low signal cortically-based distal femoral diaphyseal lesion without aggressive features.

Case Discussion

Discoid menisci can be symptomatic and one of the presentations is knee clicking. This discoid meniscus is incomplete as it covers <80% of the lateral meniscus and is also potentially unstable with the absent posterior meniscocapsular attachments, which is a known association.
