Dislocated hip prosthesis

Presentation

Left hip pain and unable to weight bear. Twisted and felt a pop.

Patient Data

Age: 70 years
Gender: Male
x-ray

The left hip prosthesis is dislocated posterosuperiorly. There is no evidence of periprosthetic fracture. Normal alignment of the right hip prosthesis.

Post Reduction

x-ray

The left hip prosthesis is now relocated. No periprosthetic fracture or loosening. 

Case Discussion

This case demonstrates a complication of total hip arthroplasty known as component dissociation. Reduction was performed under procedural sedation.
