Dislocated pisiform associated with distal radial fracture

Case contributed by Assoc Prof Craig Hacking

Patient Data

Age: 45 years
Gender: Male

Comminuted intra-articular fracture of the distal left radius with dorsal displacement, angulation and impaction of the distal fracture fragments. The pisiform is dislocated anteriorly from the carpus. Mildly displaced left ulnar styloid process fracture.

Case Discussion

Pisiform subluxation or dislocation associated with distal radial fracture are often overlooked, especially on plain films. In this case it is obvious. If missed or untreated, pisiform dislocation may predispose to pisotriquetral osteoarthritis.
