Breast cancer with severe headache.
Patient Data
Cuts taken through the nasal cavity reveal abnormal lesion near the left posterior choana with a signal corresponds to the related nasal turbinates; the anterior part of the left nasal cavity is empty with non-visualized left inferior turbinate. Multiple small scattered lacunar infarcts. No evidence of intracranial metastasis.
Case Discussion
Although a rare condition, this case demonstrates dislocation of the inferior nasal turbinate into the nasopharynx. In this case with the patient giving a history of cancer breast metastasis is an optimal differential, however, the empty nasal cavity and the signal of the lesion that is very similar to the contralateral turbinates makes the diagnosis of dislocation more likely. A dislocated turbinate may cause headache, respiratory problem or even sleep apnea.
