Presentation
Medial knee pain
Patient Data
Horizontal tear of the medial meniscal posterior horn extending to the tibial surface. The tear extends into the medial meniscal body where a horizontal flap tear from the inferior portion of the meniscus is displaced into the tibial recess. There is localized synovitis/meniscocapsular inflammation adjacent to the tearing.
Case Discussion
Horizontal flap tear involving the inferior portion of the medial meniscal body with the meniscal flap displaced into the tibial recess. This tear is important to identify as they are often symptomatic (as in this case with localized synovitis) and can be missed at arthroscopy unless the surgeon knows to check the tibial recess at this site.
