Distal fibular fracture (Weber B)

Case contributed by Dr Derek Smith

Delayed presentation following fall, with lateral foot and ankle pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

Foot XR

At the edge of the study, the distal fibular fracture is seen. This is better appreciated on the next ankle views.

Ankle XR

This projection better demonstrates the distal fibular fracture, and reveals its position at the level of the syndesmosis making this a Weber B injury.

Case Discussion

An edge of film example case for exams.

If only given the foot XR, remember review areas including the distal fibula.

Conversely review the base of fifth metatarsal with ankle views.
