Case contributed by Dr Balint Botz

Presentation

Accidental fall from less than 1 meter a few hours earlier. Agitated and not moving the right lower limb.

Patient Data

Age: 6 months
Gender: Male

Circumferential distal metaphyseal cortical buckling of the right femur, with cortical breach visible on the lateral view.

Case Discussion

Fractures of the long bones in infants not yet bearing weight are rare. Correlating the radiographic appearance (acute injury) and the history provided by caregivers is always crucial to rule out a non-accidental injury.
