Presentation
Pain post fall from bicycle onto elbow.
Patient Data
Joint effusion and fracture through the lateral condyle of the humerus with possible intraarticular involvement.
Comminuted fracture of the left distal humerus involving the lateral humeral condyle with 3 mm of lateral displacement. The fracture line extends oblique and medially to the articular surface of the trochlea.
Moderate overlying soft tissue edema. Joint effusion with elevation of the anterior and posterior fat pads.
Proximal radius and ulna are intact. No joint dislocation.
Case Discussion
Fractures involving the elbow should be suspected when hemarthrosis is present.
Due to displacement and possible intraarticular involvement, the CT was done for surgical planning which displayed the extent of the injury. The patient went on to have screw fixation of the lateral condyle.
