Distal right ureteric calculus

Case contributed by Dr Henry Knipe

Right loin to groin pain.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Female
Modality: X-ray
Calcification projects in the pelvis, to the right of midline, at the level of the ischial tuberosity.
Modality: CT

Distal right ureteric stone with mild right hydronephrosis.

Case Discussion

CT is far more sensitive than plain films for detection of ureteric calculi. However, if a stone is radiopaque and large enough, plain films are useful to follow stone progress.
