Small ankle joint effusion. No osteochondral injury of the talar dome or distal tibial plafond. Marked marrow and periosteal edema of the distal tibia with an almost complete stress fracture through the metaphysis. Subcutaneous edema around the ankle joint.
Case Discussion
Distal tibial stress fractures at the metaphysis are uncommon as most frequently they are in the diaphysis. The underlying etiology is not known in this case.
