Distal tibiofibular synostosis

Bony fusion of the distal tibia and fibula over more than 6 cm. Secondary osteoarthritis with subchondral cysts and marrow edema. Sessile osteochondroma at the dorsal border of the fibula.
Case Discussion
Non-traumatic distal tibiofibular synostosis seems to be a very rare condition. Only 2 cases have been described as "congenital" 1, though they should rather be called developmental. Coalescence of "kissing osteochondromata" has been described as a possible pathogenetic mechanism 2.
