Diverticular abscess


A known case of multiple myeloma presented with abdominal pain and fever. Examination revealed left iliac fossa mass, guarding and tenderness.

Patient Data

Age: 60 years
Gender: Male

Large ill-defined lesion containing air and fluid is seen in the left lumbar and left iliac fossa regions displacing the surrounding bowel loops associated with adjacent bowel loop wall thickening and smudged mesenteric fat planes. Evidence of sigmoid colon diverticulosis is also noted.

Case Discussion

Diverticular abscess formation is one of the recognized complications of diverticulitis which occurs in 30% of patients.
