Presentation
Pain and tenderness in the lower abdomen for one day. Mild fever.
Patient Data
Technique: Volume acquisition through the abdomen and pelvis has been obtained without contrast administration.
Findings: Diverticula through the colon. Focal fat stranding adjacent to a sigmoid diverticulum. No signs of pneumoperitoneum.
A cortical cyst is noted in the upper pole of the right kidney. The remainder exams is unremarkable.
Conclusion: Non-complicated diverticulitis.

Case Discussion
This case demonstrates a classical appearance of an inflamed diverticulum in the sigmoid colon. The case was managed as a non-complicated diverticulitis with conservative treatment at home.
In some cases, it can be difficult to distinguish diverticulitis from colon cancer, especially when there is prominent focal colonic thickness and the inflamed diverticulum may not easily be spotted.
