Presentation

Child with Down syndrome with recent chest infection and worsening respiratory distress.

Patient Data

Age: 13 months
Gender: Male
x-ray

Extensive lung disease with interstitial thickening and cystic change peripherally. Perihilar collapse.

Multiple cysts throughout both lungs in a predominantly subpleural distribution.

Case Discussion

Subpleural cysts are not common in children with Down syndrome, but they have been described as a feature of the condition.
