Presentation
Acute abdominal pain; background of endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm.
Patient Data
There is a large fusiform aortic aneurysm with an endovascular stent within. The posterior aortic wall is flattened with effacement of the fat plane between the vertebrae and the aorta consistent with the draped aorta sign.
Wall bulging and discontinuity are seen in the left posterolateral wall of the aneurysm with related vascular leakage anterior to the left psoas muscle with resultant anterior displacement of the left kidney.
Case Discussion
The patient admitted to the hospital with sudden onset of severe abdominal pain. Contrast study was omitted because of background of chronic renal disease.
Draped aorta sign can be seen in contained rupture of an abdominal aortic aneurysm. It is highly indicative of aortic wall deficiency.
