Routine screening mammogram

Patient Data

Age: 50 years
Gender: Female

The value of comparison with previous studies.

There are literally calcifications everywhere. The small annotated focus was new; it turned out to be DCIS.

Control image after localization plus specimen radiograph.

Mammogram a year later showing post therapy radiation changes.

Case Discussion

The value of previous images in mammography: this case shows how careful comparison with previous studies can pick up even subtle calcifications in complex dense calcified breast tissue. This patient had a multitude of benign calcifications in both breasts. The small focus of DCIS was new compared with two years previously. They were picked up because the previous images were also carefully reviewed (Nice one Ken).
