Routine breast screen.

Patient Data

Age: 52-year-old
Gender: Female
Mammography

Screening mammography - Round 1

The breasts are heterogeneously dense and demonstrate a cluster of amorphous microcalcifications in the lower inner quadrant of the right breast.

Work up images (right breast)

Compression and magnification on a CC and lateral projections confirm the cluster of suspicious fine microcalcifications in the right lower inner quadrant.

Stereotactic biopsy

Stereotactic biopsy has been performed and the sampling was adequate. 

Case Discussion

These microcalcifications were managed as a category B (Nottingham classification) and further confirmed to represent DCIS in the stereotactic biopsy. 

 

MICROSCOPIC DESCRIPTION: Sections show multiple cores of breast parenchyma with ductal carcinoma in situ intermediate grade which has focal calcification. No evidence of invasive malignancy is seen.

DIAGNOSIS: "Right breast Ca2 + Cat B": Ductal carcinoma in situ intermediate grade. Calcification present.
