Duodenal atresia

Presentation

Failure to pass meconium. Initially vomiting. High volume bilious aspirates from NG tube.

Patient Data

Age: 1 day
Gender: Female
x-ray

Umbilical clip confirms neonatal period. NG tube has passed into the stomach. Large gas-filled viscus in the upper abdomen. Given the history, this almost certainly represents duodenal atresia. No vertebral abnormality.

Case Discussion

Duodenal atresia was confirmed operatively and fixed. There was no other abnormality.
