Duplex collecting system with obstructing calculus

Presentation

Right loin pain and hematuria

Patient Data

Age: 40-50 years
Gender: Female

The following findings are noted: 

  • incomplete fusion of the right kidney upper and lower pole moieties
  • malrotated lower right renal moiety
  • double collecting system of both right renal moieties draining into a single ureter with large obstructing stone 50 mm at the pelviureteric junction (PUJ) causing backpressure at both upper and lower moieties.
  • bilateral simple renal cysts, the largest on the right side
  • bilateral ovarian cysts

Case Discussion

MRI findings are consistent with a right duplex collecting system with single ureter and right PUJ obstructing stone.
