Duplex kidney with ectopic ureter

Presentation

Recurrent urinary tract infections with ongoing left flank discomfort.

Patient Data

Age: 30 years
Gender: Male

There is a duplex left renal collecting system. There is an obstructed left upper pole moiety with chronic hydronephrosis and hydroureter. There is an ectopic insertion of the upper pole ureter into the prostatic urethra. The lower pole moiety is normal with the phasic ureteric flow. Left renal lower pole simple cysts. The right renal tract is normal.

Case Discussion

Features consistent with a duplex collecting system of the left renal tract.

In this instance, the ectopic ureter inserts into the prostatic or posterior urethra.

The patient underwent a laparoscopic left upper pole partial nephrectomy.

Workup for Fanconi anemia was negative.
