Presentation
Right sided abdominal pain
Patient Data
Single cecum is seen with one normally localized appendix exhibiting partial duplication, filled with hypodense fluid and radiodense structures seen within it likely representing appendicoliths. Surrounding increased fat density. Minimal free fluid seen in the pelvis. Incidentally found pericholecystic rim of fluid and minimal pericardial effusion.
Duplex appendix containing appendicoliths.
Case Discussion
The patient came to the ER department complaining of right-sided abdominal pain two, with pyrexia and a raised white cell count. Ultrasound revealed minimal free fluid in the pelvis, and the appendix was not identified. The CT shows a single cecum with one normally localized appendix exhibiting partial duplication, with features of inflammation. Laparoscopy was performed and confirmed a duplex appendix type A.
