Diagnosis certain

Presentation

Recurrent urinary tract infections.

Patient Data

Age: 1 year
Gender: Male

CT Abdomen and pelvis (IVP)

ct

Multiplanar CT study during the excretory phase shows (left side):

  • complete duplicated ureters extending down to the bladder
  • no signs of ureteroceles on the bladder
  • Vesico-ureteric reflux into the distal extremity of ureter draining the lower pole. No excreted contrast into the pyelo-ureteral system of the lower renal pole was seen
  • lobulated renal contour with multiple internal cysts areas in the lower renal pole that seems to be a pyelo-ureteral dilatation. This nonfunctioning lower pole mimics a renal mass

Case Discussion

Duplicated collecting system, also referred as duplex collectiong system, is one of the most common congenital renal tract abnormalities.
